was born in1954 inTexas, but was raised inCalifornia. I studied science, art and music in college and earned a BA in Biology from theUniversityofCalifornia,Santa Cruz. My art career began with “Designs by Lucy”, a needlepoint business with 12 years of nation-wide sales. After the birth of my two children, I focused on fine art. Since then, my work has been in over 100 juried shows and is owned in 19 states and 4 countries. It has been published as textbook covers, book and article illustrations, stickers, cards, and calendars by Cedco Publishing, Quarto Publishing, Reader’s Digest, Mrs. Grossman’s Paper Co, Red Hen Press, Sage Publications, Step by Step Beads, Carlina Calendars, HGTV and others. Travel destinations that have inspired me include the Amazon Jungle, the Galapagos Islands,Turkey,Greece, East Africa,Machu Picchu, andHawaii. I have been married for twenty-nine years and have two grown children.
Nature is my primary source of inspiration, and it is often small, intimate details that attract my eye. I prefer to depict actual species in natural history paintings, as I can’t imagine more wonderful and bizarre life forms than those actually found on Earth. In my abstract work, I employ multi-layered colors to explore micro and macrocosms of energy, dimensions, and the cosmos. These paintings have an internal rather than any objective source of inspiration.
