Peter has had a love of painting since childhood and showed this from the age of 2 years. He kept a book of Salvador Dali tucked under his pillow from this early age.
When Peter was only 13, his father, John, had a tragic accident which led him to consider becoming a fulltime painter. Considering that John's father (Peter's grandfather) was also a professional painter, John's decision to emulate his father wasn't difficult to make. Influenced by his father and grandfather, Peter also took up the brush.
With peer encouragement, Peter decided painting would be his life's work and has been painting ever since. At the age of 14 Peter Caley painted an exquisite portrait in oil that was so stunning that the family decided Peter's talents deserved greater attention. That portrait still hangs in the family home.
Although he had been painting for many years, it was only in 1988 that Peter publicly declared himself to be an "official", professional fine artist.
