Edward McNaught-Davis is a professional UKfine artist and cartoonist. Edward resides in West Waleswhere he is inspired by much of the varying beauty of the Welsh countryside and its coastline. Edward prefers to paint/illustrate scenes depicting escapism and freedom but with a sense of contemporary responsibility. The common denominator among all of Edward's pictures is the vivid sense of colour used to enhance a scene. Edward strives to achieve the right balance of colour to make the picture come alive so that the viewer feels part of it.Edward is inspired to do many of his paintings and it is quite common these days for faces and illustrations of people and animals to appear in his work that he has not consciously put there. These additional inspirations are of subtle quality and blend in well with the composition. Once you have spotted them it is difficult not to see them again.Much of Edward's colour work has been achieved with artist’s quality Oil Pastel which is generally a difficult medium to work and it is quite unusual to find an artist who depends on it as a sole medium in any one painting. Edward also uses Acrylic’s, Water Colour, Oils, Crayons and Chalks as well as Pen and Ink. It is rare for Edward to use an under-painting as he prefers to paint straight away without guidelines in another medium. This gives a certain fresh approach to the work in hand. Many cartoons have been published either under Edward's pen name of Ed or under one of his other pseudonyms. Corporations have used Edward’s cartoons for advertisements, presentations, publications, technical guides and simply to hang on the wall. Other commissions have included numerous Christmas card designs as well as a selection of illustrations for a religious publication.Edward uses various software tools to help him to ready his work for publishing. These include raster & vector drawing tools, photo image editing & desk top publishing. Brands such as Serif and Adobe are in constant use.Edward's paintings and cartoons hang in private collections within the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia, Australia and the USA. In July 1997, Edward's work was shown on UK Television. Picture Sizes are purposely small for storage and ease of delivery. Much larger work has been sold and is frequently undertaken. The copies of Edward's pictures shown throughout this web site were achieved with either a digital camera or via a flat bed scanner both of which have resulted in a slight degradation of true colour. Similarly, it is important to remember that paintings viewed on a PC have artificial light shining through the back of the image which can make images appear brighter than they are really. All images of Edward’s paintings and cartoons are shown in either .jpeg or .png file format.Solo ExhibitionsHungerford Town Hall (1994).Private Venue, London (1997).Stone Planet Art Gallery, Savernake, Wiltshire.
